Brukner Nature Center Internship
Do you love being outdoors? Do you have a passion for both wildlife and education? If so, this internship is the perfect opportunity for you to pursue your interests.
Interns are responsible for participating in all aspects of the
center, with an emphasis on animal care and education. Interns work closely with
our wildlife rehabilitation program, one of the largest of its kind in the state
of Ohio, as well as working with children and adults in our educational programs
- both on site and in schools. Our internship is designed to foster and
encourage individual growth, and instill skills in education, wildlife, land
stewardship, and non-profit administration.
QUALIFICATIONS: Background in natural history or animal husbandry, previous experience working with wildlife, planning educational programs, and guiding interpretive hikes is desirable.
DUTIES:
Gain experience by assisting Curator of Wildlife in care and maintenance of animals in wildlife rehabilitation program, one of the largest of its kind in the state!
Gain experience by assisting Curator of Wildlife in care of over 40 permanent resident wildlife ambassadors used in educational programs.
Gain experience by assisting in planning, preparing, and conducting natural history, historical and native wildlife programs for school age children and the public.
Gain experience in all phases of nature center work by assisting with special events and general operation of the center.
Complete a project: Construct display, enhance exhibit, produce educational slide show, design program. etc.
Participate in at least one behind-the-scenes tour of another nature center facility.
TIME & SCHEDULE: The internships may be scheduled for a minimum of one quarter or 3 months. Longer terms, 6 - 9 months are preferable.
STIPEND: Housing and a $165.00 per two week food stipend is provided for full-time interns. Part-time internships are also available and pay $2.07 per hour. College credit is possible by special arrangement.
