Miss June's Retirement Open House
We have BIG News to Share... Miss June is retiring this spring so she can spend more time with her family and grandkids (who live on opposite coasts). As you all know, Miss June is PEEP! She coordinates, teaches, writes lesson plans and remembers every student she has had for the past 17 years as the Director of Education (33 years teaching PEEP)! Her enthusiasm to bring the wonders of wildlife and nature to all kiddos is so magical and endearing. Miss June has a gift for teaching and inspiring others and we thank her for choosing to do that here at Brukner Nature Center!
To honor Miss June, we are hosting an Open House at Brukner Nature Center on Saturday, March 28 from 10:00am – 12:00pm in the Meeting Room! Anyone wishing to say good-bye to Miss June is encouraged to stop out, write your well wishes, or share a memory/photo as we celebrate and reflect on the huge impact Miss June has had over the years. Written notes and photos can be dropped off at the front desk or email them to allison.drieling@gmail.com. Miss June would love to see all the friendly faces that made her smile every day here at BNC.
We hope you can make it!

Remember to dress for the weather as we will be spending all of our time outside. Children 16 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Limited to 20 people so register early.

With the harshness of winter set fully upon us most of the birds we see are those winter residents that have been here already for a few months. Through the Great Backyard Bird Count and Project FeederWatch, we can help keep track of these populations and join in a global effort to count as many birds as possible. Data from all over the world can then be combined to give a snapshot of local and international bird populations. Come learn more about these citizen science projects and help us count the birds found at Brukner Nature Center as we strive to help increase the understanding of bird populations and movement here and around the world!

Night Hike - Registration required
Join us as we hike and discuss “Ohio Critter Winter Preparations”!
With colder temperatures and winter weather on the horizon most of our local creatures have worked hard to prepare for the difficulties of the months ahead. Much like people animals have different ways to survive the winter! Some will tuck away and hide from the cold like a toad, some will stock up on food so they don’t have to go out when it’s cold like a squirrel, while others will avoid the cold altogether and head south like a hummingbird. Join us as we search and listen for these critters and more including trying to get owls to talk to us as the night settles in!
Dress for the weather as we will be spending all of our time outside. Children 16 years-old and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Monthly Vendor - Dick Wagar
Our Featured Vendor for November and December is Dick Wagar who keeps himself busy in retirement by creating candle plaques and various knick knacks made from wood, leaves, stone and other items found in nature. Each item introduces a bit of the natural world into the home, as a reminder of the beauty and splendor of our outdoor surroundings. In keeping with that theme, all candles are derived from beeswax, and river stone, tree bark, and leaves are sourced from local hikes Dick enjoys throughout the year. It is hoped that the light from one of the candle plaques or other items will provide a warm glow wherever placed in the home or office, and that each object will serve as a reminder of those things we hold dear in the out of doors.
All items are just $10 each and BNC Members receive a 10% discount.
